OpenAI has introduced a new feature called Tasks in ChatGPT, allowing users to set reminders and schedule responses to specific prompts. This feature is currently in beta and is available to Plus, Team, and Pro subscribers starting today.
OpenAI launches Tasks feature in ChatGPT for scheduling and remindersUsers can create tasks by selecting “4o with scheduled tasks” from the model picker and can input prompts in plain language. Occasionally, ChatGPT may suggest tasks, which require user approval before activation. Users can manage up to ten tasks through conversation or a new Tasks section in the ChatGPT applications.
When due, the ChatGPT app will notify users of scheduled tasks. This update marks OpenAI’s initial venture into agentic AI, a domain focused on developing applications that can operate somewhat independently, catering to the needs of information workers.

The system can browse the web on a set schedule but does not allow continuous background searches or automated purchases.

OpenAI plans to use this beta phase to gather user feedback prior to a wider rollout, particularly aiming to improve functionality within its mobile app and for free users. During this initial launch, users cannot set tasks through Advanced Voice Mode.

Additionally, internal documents reveal that OpenAI has established five stages of artificial intelligence development, with the third stage focusing on agents capable of taking actions. Future agentic systems, such as one called Operator that is expected to write code and book travel, may be released in the coming weeks.
ChatGPT’s Tasks integrates familiar elements from existing digital assistants while introducing new functionalities that are unique to this system, reflecting OpenAI’s aims to enhance the capabilities of its large language model.
