Over the past few years, TikTok has grown to over 1.5 billion monthly active users, largely thanks to the appeal of its For You Page. And if you’ve ever used TikTok, you know how addictive the For You feed can be.
For brands and creators, appearing on users’ For You pages can significantly increase brand awareness, followers, and engagement. While there’s no guaranteed way to land there, there are many ways to maximize your chances.
To uncover the best approaches, we spoke with TikTok creators Sophia Lovasz, Natalie Lennon, and Jobber’s Social Media Manager, Katie Fitzgerald, who shared their expert insights below.
What is the TikTok FYP (For You Page)? The Tiktok FYP (For You Page) is a feed of content personalized for you by an algorithm. The FYP shows a mix of posts from accounts you follow and accounts you don’t follow that the algorithm believes you will enjoy.
In other words, the FYP predicts which content you’ll find most engaging.
According to TikTok, the app curates each user’s FYP feed according to three main factors:
If you’re scrolling your FYP and are curious to know why a specific video is on your feed, TikTok will tell you why.
Simply tap the share icon on a video and then Why this video.
How to know when you’re on the FYPGenerally, once your TikTok videos start going viral and gaining lots of views in a short period, that’s a good clue you’ve made it to the FYP.
However, you can know whether your video is on the FYP by looking at the post’s analytics.
To do this, open TikTok, tap the three dots on your video, and then tap Analytics.
In the overview tab, scroll down to the Traffic sources section.
In this section, you’ll see a breakdown of where all your post’s views have come from. If the majority are from “For You” you know the post has made it to the FYP.
Pro Tip: The TikTok app only shows analytics from up to 365 days ago. If you want to see data for videos over a year old, apps like Hootsuite offer TikTok analytics for longer periods.
What happens when you see success on the FYP?Making it to the FYP is an achievement for any content creator, big or small. There are a few benefits that can happen as a result:
In fact, a few of my videos have made the FYP. The first time was completely unexpected. I recorded a video about my remote job’s unique perks and uploaded it with no expectations.
Source: @lothwe
In the first few weeks, it got a few hundred views. Then, one day, I woke up and started getting tons of notifications from TikTok. It hit 5,000 views, then 10,000, and kept going. After a few weeks, it had surpassed 450,000 views.
From that one video, I gained 4,500 followers, drove many applications to the company careers page, and received multiple emails about potential brand partnerships.
Note that these results can happen over time — the video above kept getting views from the FYP a year later.
How to get on the TikTok FYP: 20 hacks from the expert(s) 1. Make something share-worthyThe TikTok algorithm considers shares among the most important user interactions. Users who share your TikToks get double the views and have a better chance of going viral.
One of Lovasz’s biggest tips for making it to the FYP: “Create the type of content you would share if it came across your feed.”
Source: @taytales
This video about an F1 driver with a Taylor Swift lyric reference came up on my FYP, and I immediately sent it to all my F1 x Swiftie friends. You might think that’s a small group, but it isn’t.
When your video content is share-worthy, people from a specific demographic are more likely to engage with it — and even share it with their own circles. This creates a snowball effect, further increasing the chances of appearing on the TikTok For You Page.
2. Jump on trendsSince TikTok’s humble origins as a shorter videos-slash-lip-syncing app, trending challenges have ruled the platform.
Once a trend starts taking off, it’s a golden opportunity to make it to the FYP. Using the same audio, hashtags, keywords, or captions as other popular videos is likelier to engage viewers and win favor with the TikTok algorithm.
Source: @teletubbies
Any Teletubbies content is pretty iconic on its own, but in this video, they jumped on a trending audio and paired it with some *chef’s kiss* clips. I hope sharing this clip will keep my FYP on TeletubbiesTok.
3. Share genuine reactions and storiesMany of the videos that make the FYP are raw, low-production videos. Whether it’s get-ready-with-me videos or people sharing stories while sitting in their car, you don’t need to put a lot of time into editing to go viral.
Lovasz shares some ideas: “Use your voice, show your reaction, or talk through what you are experiencing in real time so the viewer can feel like they are in the situation with you.”
Source: @sosobombs
In this video, Lovasz shared her genuine reactions to riding a driverless taxi in real time, resulting in over 8 million views.
4. Talk about current eventsJust as X (formerly Twitter) became the go-to platform to discuss news and current events, TikTok is the same — but in video format.
When a major event occurs, user interest in the topic spikes, resulting in more searches and views for related content. Naturally, you’ll see more videos about the Oscars on your FYP in February or March.

Lennon leaned into a trending current event in the news — new tax cuts — and made it relevant to her accounting-focused audience. Her video achieved 271,000 views.
5. Use strong hooksHere’s a fun experiment: watch how quickly people scroll through TikTok or Instagram. You’ll notice that videos only have seconds to grab their attention before they swipe to the next video.
The key to stopping scrolls: A strong hook in the first 3 seconds. Videos with higher watch times have better chances of landing on the FYP.

“Our most viral video had an impressive number right at the start, which drew people in.” shares Fitzgerald
6. Be timelyTopics on the TikTok FYP often reflect what’s happening in the news and pop culture. When planning your content calendar, consider holidays, major sports tournaments, awards, and TV events.
Publishing relevant content in the lead-up to these events gives it time to build momentum and land on the FYP.

During the 2024 US Election, Calm published short “Remember to breathe” videos across multiple channels (including TikTok) that went viral. Users flooded the comments with gratitude.
7. Post at the right timeSpeaking of being timely, scheduling your TikToks at the optimal time of day can also increase your chances of ending up on the FYP.
If you can nail the right posting time, more users will take notice of your video, leading to more engagement, a higher ranking in the algorithm, and thus higher chances of being shown on more users’ For You Pages.
Based on experiments and data from 1 million posts, Hootsuite found that the best time to post on TikTok is 3 PM on Thursdays.
It’s important to note that this is a very generalized finding and will vary across industries, geographies, audience sizes, and topics. The good news is that Hootsuite offers built-in, personalized tools that tell you when the best time is for you to post on TikTok.
Always post at the right timeFind out when your audience is online and optimize your posting schedule for maximum engagement. It’s so easy.

After posting a few videos, Lovasz realized that driverless taxis were a topic of curiosity that resonated with the FYP. “In the video, I’m in a driverless taxi, talking about the rules and my experience using the service.
The result? Over 89,000 likes and 2.3 million views.
9. Post controversial contentAnother way to make it to the FYP: Make your content comment-worthy.
Like shares, comments strongly signal to the TikTok algorithm that a post is interesting and worth showing to more users.

This Reddit user advises throwing in reaction-worthy elements in your video: “Nothing political… but something you know that will make commenters go off in the comments.”
Source: @swiftadventus
I had to watch this video twice to understand it was a bait-and-switch. The comments section clearly had the same confusion as mine.
10. Experiment with hashtagsAs intelligent as the algorithm is, trending hashtags can still help TikTok show your content to the right audience. Bonus: they also make your posts more searchable.
Fitzgerald’s advice for selecting TikTok hashtags: “Avoid hashtags that are too general, like #FYP. Identify trending topics in your industry related to your video and use a few of those.”
Source: @getjobber
“For our most viral video, we used a collection of hashtags that had a decent
amount of views within the hashtag already.” says Fitzgerald
11. Play with sounds (like ASMR)Want a quick video idea that doesn’t require a script or fancy editing? The answer: ASMR, which involves creating content with sounds.
Source: @sosobombs
“Take people on a journey with raw audio! In this video, which got 6.2 million views, I don’t use TikTok trending sounds, audio, or music. It’s just the click of the door, the sound of the car, and the AI speaking to me.” notes Lovasz
12. Answer frequently asked questionsAnother quick win: look through the comments on your previously published videos and identify any recurring or complex questions. Then, create a new standalone video replying to the comment.
Source: @natlenno
Lennon created this video by replying to a comment on a previous video. By addressing a common and frustrating question, Lennon’s video garnered 522,000 views.
13. Use trending audioEarlier, we talked about capitalizing on video and content trends. Another opportunity is to use trending audio.
According to Fitzgerald, using trending audio will increase your chances of more people watching your video.
Source: @getjobber
“In this video, the sound was trending when we posted it, which helped land the video on the FYP.” – Fitzgerald
14. Don’t delete videosIf you’re tempted to delete videos that “flop” after posting — don’t.
Source: @sosobombs
Lovasz explains why: “Don’t delete anything. Instead, keep all your content up to create a binge-worthy profile. I’ve had videos go viral and monetize months after posting because someone started to watch all my content and then shared a video, which put it back on the FYP again.”
The second reason: Deleting videos decreases your account’s total likes and views metrics.
CommentIf you’re a brand or small business, partnering with creators who are well-known to your target customers can give you extra brand awareness and build trust.
When choosing creators to partner with, aim for users with healthy engagement ratios (likes/comments/saves/shares as % of views).

Jobber partnered with Roger Wakefield to share tips on how to become a plumbing apprentice. “Roger is a well-known face in the plumbing industry, which helped the video gain traction and establish trust with our viewers.” shares Fitzgerald
16. Tag your locationThe TikTok FYP usually shows a mix of trending and up-and-coming videos from around the world. When curating a user’s For You Page, the algorithm also considers the user’s location.
The platform assumes — usually correctly — that TikTok users will be more interested in videos created in the same city, country, or continent as them.
Source: @fuelforthesole
This video used a geotag close to my location (Vancouver) and matched the content I usually engage in (travel recommendations), which explains how it ended up on my FYP.
17. Experiment, experiment, experimentFitzgerald’s most important tip for hitting the FYP: “Keep trying different content formats and themes until you see what sticks. Sometimes, we don’t land on the FYP because our topics are all over the place. So, try to post your niche topics in batches.”
Source: @getjobber
“We found success when we posted a bunch of pressure washing videos one by one so that they gained momentum.”
18. Pick a specific nicheOne of the beautiful parts of TikTok is all of the weird and wonderful sub-genres and micro-communities that have found their way to each other through the FYP.
Thanks to the algorithm, any video posted to TikTok can go viral, which lets users share whatever thought, interest, hobby, or passion is on their minds.
So, don’t be afraid to get hyper-specific in your content topics. If others out there feel the same as you do, the algorithm will find them.
Source: @lionsgate
Lionsgate has really leaned into “making fun of their old IP” as a niche, and I’m here for it. I’m convinced their TikTok is the main reason Twilight has rebounded in popularity this year.
19. Post before-and-after contentSharing before-and-after content, behind-the-scenes, or process walkthrough videos is a solid tactic for grabbing attention. The instant gratification that a viewer gets from seeing results and transformations keeps them watching or scrolling.
Source: @blancmarineinterieurs
This TikTok is an excellent example of before-and-after content. It also shows that carousels can perform just as well as videos.
20. Study other successful creators in your nicheWhenever I’m growing a new account, one of my tried-and-true tactics is auditing established creators in the same niche.
Full-time TikTok creators spend 24/7 refining their captions, editing styles, formats, and content pillars, and they’re often at the forefront of new trends.
First month posting so far. Here’s how I did it. Should be charging for this. Free adviceThis TikToker noticed that aesthetic vlogs, “day in the life”, and ASMR-type videos were trending in their niche. They created a video replicating the editing and jumpcuts, which blew up with 2 million views in 24 hours.
3 best practices to stay on the TikTok FYP, from the expertsNow that you’ve got 20 tips on how to make it to the FYP, we’ll leave you with some parting tips from our experts on how to stay there consistently.
1. Satisfy the FYP algorithm with trends“Use trending themes in your content!” says Lennon
Fitzgerald echoes that same sentiment, sharing: “You don’t have to shape your whole social media marketing strategy around trending content, but keep a pulse on trending sounds, topics, and use hashtags so you can integrate them into your content in a timely manner.”
2. Engage with your audience“Be engaging, and don’t be afraid to ask your audience to contribute! Ask questions in the caption or video itself, and reply promptly to all comments on your TikToks” notes Lennon
3. Be authentic and originalA final point from me: Despite all the tips we’ve shared, don’t feel pressured to make all your posts according to a playbook. Prioritize quality over quantity, and be genuine in your videos.
