Welcome! Today we begin this series of basic articles on how to get a job in web3… However, I think it is necessary to establish a common starting point, because each of us has our own experiences, careers and lives…
\ This makes it very difficult for me to put myself in everyone's shoes and start building from there… So, as a starting point we are going to establish a series of criteria in several areas.
\
1.- Understand web3 and its infinite possibilities\ It is not enough to know… here you have to UNDERSTAND what web3 is and how it is not limited to crypto.
\ When you understand that the opportunities are beyond what the people you follow on X tell you, the panorama becomes clearer and the opportunities flow.
\ Complementary to this, I could add the following: open your mind to the possibilities.
\ Many times we lock ourselves in our comfort zone and in our surrounding world, and what does not fit in there is rejected or repelled.
\ If you are very closed, you will hardly achieve anything in web3, because here the key is to think, be and create differently from others.
\ This connects with the second criterion…
\
2.- Know yourself\ Classic phrase from the old greek days: how are you going to be able to offer any kind of service, resource or skill if you don't even know you have it? Here, the verse, the chatter, the nice words can help you in less than a second… you will be "given away" more than once if you offer things you don't have.
\ If you don't know English and you have said that you do speak it, for example, what will happen when they ask you to make a call in real time?
\ If you have boasted that you are a great graphic designer or cartoonist, but you don't have a portfolio or anything to show… well, you will have lost your chance in the first second.
\ So ask yourself: What could I offer to a project? Exactly! You may not be clear about it now… and that is what these tips and this guide are about… If you have a clear and convincing answer to the question… you can move on to the next box (hehe)
\ But if you are not clear about it, you should start analyzing it… to realize what you have, to name your skills, to connect with them and take ownership of them.
\ It is a process… but YOU MUST DO IT… “nobody gives what they do not have”.
\ I did not know I was a researcher two years ago… I discovered it over time… and now I live off of it.
\ This brings me to the third criterion.
3.- In due time you will understand everythingI am almost sure that when you entered web3 or crypto, you were very lost… hundreds of concepts, acronyms, projects, ideas… links… links… LINKS… LIIIIINNNNKKKSSSSSS!!!!!!!!
\ Maybe you fell for scams, or you met the CEO of a project who loved your profile of… less than 100 followers… and thinks you are great at creating content and sends you a link to download their app, game, design program, etc… so you can test it and give them your feedback… your ego grows… you feel like you are succeeding… and the only thing you get is the painful learning of having fallen for the simplest scam in this world: sugarcoating you and making you “step on the bait”.
\ Well, but the criteria was related to time… and that’s how it is… things take time, growth takes time… learning to find your place in web3 takes time… Are you an airdrop hunter? A dApp tester? A researcher? A memer? A trader? Are you one or all of them?…
\ At first, the lack of definition and the multiplicity of options that exist in web3 are overwhelming and it takes time to “wake up” and another time to “adapt”, it’s like the one who came out of the cave and was blinded by the sun (Greetings, friend Plato!)… until he got used to seeing, it took him a while.
\ Also, each process is VERY personal… it took me 2 full years (with ups and downs) to get the jobs in web3 that I make a living from.
It may be that others get them in a month… others in more time… EACH ONE HAS THEIR OWN PROCESS… and their own “lore” (if you don’t know the term… run and ask ChatGPT now because that is what the following criterion is about)…
\
4.- The image is everythingWeb3 is so broad and decentralized that here you can be whoever you want, wish or dream of being… there are no limits here… neither for good nor for bad…
\ However, it is also true that the more IDENTITY you can give to your presence on web3… the faster you will position yourself and achieve the goal of working there…
\ Does your name in X incorporate the name of a project because you were doing a campaign and they asked you to change it? You are “James | Tabi | Xter | Story | Little red square | seahorse | various bullshit….?“ Well let me tell you that you are and they are “tampering” with your identity in X.
\ I would tell you to set up a secondary account in which you can put all these things…
\ You will tell me: Argos, I only have one account with which I have done and farmed every project that has crossed my nose…
\ I will tell you… well think about it carefully, because if you want to have a place here and to be recognized little by little… well you must give it and give yourself your IDENTITY… you are your profile in X, telegram, Discord, etc… You are your product…
\ So, if you are your own product, your own brand: How are you managing your image? Do you have different names on all your social networks? Is the image “kindly taken from the internet”?
\ Do you have a lot of profile images? Are you on networks with your real name? Why do you call yourself what you call yourself in X or on other social networks? Is there an aesthetic line that unifies everything and all your profiles? In short: are you SOMEONE? Or a FRANKENSTEIN? WHAT IS YOUR STORY?
\ Your answers… are yours… obviously… The good news is that both in web3 and in life EVERYTHING CAN BE EDITED…
\ As everything takes time… you have the time to edit your image, to create (and BELIEVE in) your brand. When you understand this, you realize that there is no rush, that you must grow organically, that you can edit everything, that you need to discover what you are good at… because everything fits together like a puzzle…
\ And if not… look for the story of the idol with feet of clay… if you don’t put effort, effort, love into building your foundations… no matter how high you climb… you will fall like a stone.
\
5.- Be the builder\ When I entered web3 I was VERY lost… obviously I entered for the airdrops and the “free” money… I liked the idea of being an “airdrop hunter”… a solitary hunter… a scavenger…
\ However, as time went by, I realized that THAT WAS THE WORST APPROACH I could give to my stay in web3… I entered many discords and saw that people worked as moderators, community creators… creating content, making guides, videos… and many lived off of that…
\ The question was… why not me? And I began to question myself about what I was missing…
\ We could say that I did not meet any of the criteria mentioned above… and there a key word appeared in all this: BUILD And, dear reader, this is the key here in web3.
\ You must build your reputation, you must build your credibility, your story, your lore, your identity, and then build relationships, build networks, and at the same time build your assets, your resources… build, build and build…
\ This is not for the lazy… you don’t get work from above… you don’t go publishing in the universe of X and then a “talent scout” discovers you and makes you the new star…
\ A-mi-go… most likely he will steal your digital underwear… There is no such thing…
\ What I have verified is that opportunities are achieved based on the assets built and the capacity to build… not the other way around. So you will tell me… what do I build? How? With what?… etc… and I will tell you: patience. All in good time… I will tell you in other installments…
\
6.- What working in web3 is NOT + some advice\ Before finishing and already outside the criteria listed, I would like to tell you what WORKING IN WEB3 IS NOT and give you some advice:
