Amazon commits $4B to rural logistics expansion

DATE POSTED:June 25, 2025
Amazon commits B to rural logistics expansion

Amazon expanded its Same-Day and Next-Day delivery services on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, reaching over 4,000 small cities and towns across the rural United States to bring faster Prime delivery to millions of customers.

This expansion includes communities such as Asbury, Iowa; Fort Seneca, Ohio; Lewes, Delaware; North Padre Island, Texas; and Sharptown, Maryland. The e-commerce entity has committed to investing more than $4 billion to triple the size of its current delivery network by 2026.

Amazon noted an increasing demand for expedited delivery from customers residing in rural areas, who frequently encounter limited online shopping options. By enhancing its investment in Same-Day and Next-Day delivery capabilities, the company aims to generate additional employment opportunities within these rural communities. Projections indicate approximately 170 positions will be created at various delivery stations, supplemented by further driving opportunities.

Data released by the company indicates a significant increase in the volume of items delivered on the same day or the following day within the U.S., with a rise exceeding 30% when compared to the corresponding period of the previous year. In 2024 alone, Amazon successfully delivered more than 9 billion items utilizing these expedited delivery services. This service expansion precedes Amazon’s scheduled Prime Day event, which is set to commence on July 8 and conclude on July 11, spanning a total duration of 96 hours.
